Please be sure to thank Anurag and Cherag for donating their time and experience to the class.
Thank you so much Cherag and Anurag for teaching us!!!That was so much fun and I really enjoyed it :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy learning about culture outside the classroom, and would really enjoy more hands-on lessons like this!
I wasn't there today, but after watching the videos it seems really cool. I've seen the performances at some of the past talent shows and I liked them then!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria though. I think all the students enjoy and would benefit from learning through lessons and activities like these!
Thanks so much Cherag and Anurag! You guys were so fantastic together! Cherag I know from watching you in past talent shows and today that you really have such a strong stage presence and are really passionate about dancing. You're really fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteI didn't praticipate in learning the steps today, but from watching Bhangra it seems like it is a dance where you are constantly moving to the beat in a hopping kind of manner. It's also a dance that seems like you have to be very lose and unwound to perform it which is very different from watching ball room dancing or ballet where one is constantly pointing their toes and standing erect. It seems like a very free-flowing dance and it's a blast to watch! I could not stop watching either of the videos Mr. McCarthy posted! I also actually really enjoy the music! I have always liked the way Indian music has sounded and actually have a few songs in my itunes library. I love the constant rhythm and beat in the songs and the vocals.
Thank you so much Cherag and Anurag! You were both excellent teachers!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed today’s lesson- it was a fun way to enrich the multicultural unit and it definitely brought life to a culture we have been discussing and reading about in class. It helped me make more of a connection to the Indian culture and I’m glad to have received the chance!
I really enjoyed our class today. It was a great addition to what we have been doing recently and it would be great if we could do more things like this. While I did not participate in the lesson, I really enjoyed watching and seeing everyone else learning. The dancing and the music that goes along with it are incredible! Thanks to Cherag and Anurag for doing this! It was great!
ReplyDeleteToday's Bhangra lesson was so much fun! I participated in almost every dance and had fun doing it!! The energy Cherag and Anurag brought to teach us as fantastic and I found it to be infectious-- more than half of our class was up and dancing and having fun for the entire period!!! I agree 100% that hands on learning is the best way to learn and I am proud to say that I learned Bhangra!
ReplyDeleteWow. That about sums it up. I was amazed by how energetic bhangra was when you are actually doing it instead of just watching. This is the kind of learning people should do for the entire school year: learning by doing, instead of by watching or listening to someone lecturing about a topic that doesn't capture anyone's interest. Great job guys!
ReplyDeleteLearning Bhangra was a new and fun experience. Thank you Cherag and Anurag for taking time out of your day to come and teach us! I really enjoyed trying this because it was something that I had never done before. It was definitely a lot harder than it looks! I gained a new respect for Bhangra, and dancing in general. I'm glad that we were given the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. We should absolutely do something like that again!
ReplyDeleteThanks to both Cherag and Anurag! I thought today's class was really fun and interesting and I had a great time learning all the moves. It was nice to have some hands on experience and actually participate, rather than just watching because it is a whole different experience. I am glad I was able to do this, it was awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherag and Anurag!! I think Bhangra is such an interesting style of dance. There is so much energy in Bhangra its so entertaining to watch. I really enjoyed the class today because it gave us a way to learn outside of the classroom. Even though I didn't participate today I loved watching. From watching and listening to what others were saying it looks really hard to do so I give a lot of credit to Cherag and Anurag. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I will ever forget the first time I saw Cherag and Randeep dance. It was so thrilling and surprising because no one was expecting it and not very many people had ever seen this type of dance before.the audience went crazy and the energy was insane. The dance has so much life and joy it is hard not to smile.
ReplyDeleteSo thank you Cherag and Anurag it was a great experience.
I really enjoyed the class today and really got into the bhangra dancing. I always like it the culture we learn about in class can be applied to something greater. Dancing was a great way to incorporate the culture of India into the class, supplementing our prior knowledge. It was something I had never done, because there are not many opportunities for this type of activity in Arlington, but it proved to be a lot of fun. Also, Cherag and Anurag were great teachers! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteEven though everyone has previously said it, I'll say again how neat it was to have Cherag and Anurag teach us bhangra dancing! The youtube videos were really intricate and awesome to watch, but having people who can show us in person how to do the steps is a real treat! It was tiring and tough, but it was a really fun experience, and certainly an opportunity to learn bhangra from two experienced people doesn't come up often! Thank you so much for teaching this to us!!
ReplyDeleteWatching you guys at the talent show at the end of the year is always very exciting and a lot of fun! It was awesome to be able to have a better understanding of how hard it is to preform the way you guys do. Thank you both so much for the lesson! It was awesome to see our whole class participate, even Mr. McCarthy in the back after taking part in the class before.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I can't wait to see the talent show again this year! It's going to be quite the challenge for anyone else to compete up to your level. Have fun until then, and good luck with all of your competitions until then!
Thank you so much Cherag and Anurag! I had so much fun learning how to do Bhangra. I can understand why you are so tired when you come to track practice. Bhangra is a great work out and it is such a beautiful form of self expression. The various body movements and move combinations are extremely difficult. I am so happy that everyone was so eager to join in and experience a different culture. I wish there were Bhangra classes in Arlington.
ReplyDeleteIn the past, I've watched Cherag and Anurag put on a Bhangra performance for the talent show and it always looked easier when they did it. The Bhangra dance is so very enthusiastic, uplifting and it certainly did get my adrenaline running for the rest of the day. Bhangra should probably be the new Zumba.
ReplyDeleteAside from the dance, I really appreciate the enthusiasm and the whole-hearted dedication that Cherag and Anurag put into Bhangra and it shows how much pride they have in their culture.
Thank you Cherag and Anurag for performing! It was very cool to watch and learn how to dance, although I did not participate. Watching the rest of the class do Bhangra and then watching Cherag and Anurag perform really puts perspective into how hard the dancing really is. They both make it look so easy! Both of the videos were awesome as well. They are amazingly in sync and some of the poses look extremely challenging.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cherag and Anurag for teaching us some awesome Bhangra moves! I had fun trying out some of the moves you guys performed at the talent show last year. Flailing about in an attempt to copy your Bhangra moves really made me appreciate your performance last week and last year even more (and I didn't think that could ever be possible!).
ReplyDeleteI too would like to thank Cherag and Anurag for taking the time to teach us some Bhangra. They were great teachers and performers. It was a great opportunity- that I think most of us would not have had normally. I agree, that this hands-on lesson was a great supplement to the culture we have been studying in class. I hope people will bring the same type of opportunity and energy to class with future projects and lit circles. It was definitely an enriching experience, and I am glad that we all had the opportunity to try it. Thanks again!

Thank you so much Anurag and Cherag for taking that class time to teach us Bhangra! It was an amazing time. It was very energetic and a calorie burner for sure, I really enjoyed it. I am so glad we all had the opportunity to participate in it! I wish they had classes at school that we could take! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Anurag and Cherag! It was definitely a great experience learning how to dance Bhangra! This dance lesson definitely gave a new perspective in learning other cultures. It is nice to get active as well as learning the diversity of different cultures. Comparing American and Indian dancing, I think Indian dancing uses more of the whole body.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much to Cherag and Anurag! It is so nice to see people that are passionate about their culture and willing to share what they know with those around them. It was fun to have such a hands on experience and really try to take things out of the classroom. Learning a few steps was fun and certainly memorable. I really enjoyed myself and I especially enjoyed the small performance at the end. I look forward to the talent show this year!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much to Cherag and Anurag.
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun learning these Bhangra dance moves. I have always enjoyed watching the Bhangra dancing at the annual talent show, and I was very excited to finally try it out myslef. I am impressed by how connected the dance is with Northern Indian culture, and how both Cherag and Anurag have chosen to keep this part of their culture alive, even here in America. I wish there was something in my own culture that I could so actively participate in as these two.
It was a lot of fun! Thanks again.
Sean
Thank you Cherag and Anurag!!
ReplyDeleteLearning to Bhangra dance was so fun! Like Sean, I have always enjoyed the talent show performances so it was really cool to get to learn some basic moves, as it definitely gave me a better idea of the style of dance. The detail of the hand positions and the types of moves such as jumping and kicking are very specific to Bhangra so I definitely got a good sense of the type of dancing. I think it is really cool that Cherag and Anurag have stayed so involved in dance and enjoy it so much. When they were performing they both looked like they really loved what they were doing and it seems like a great way to connect to Indian culture in such an Americanized society.
It was a great class! Thanks again Cherag and Anurag!

It was really interesting to see how interested everyone was in learning Bhangra, something I had been taking for granted. Everyone did a great job! Truly there is no better way of leaning about a new culture then actually trying something out rather then simply reading about it in books. It was nice to see how enthusiastic everyone was about learning this art form. This experience has given me a new appreciation for many cultural aspects that I have been taking for granted. I also observed that things that may come easy for one person may require lots of hard work and practice from another. I commend Cherag and Anu for being able to engage the class and teach them something new.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cherag and Anurag! I thought it was a great experience! I liked trying to do the dances, even though i was not great. It shows how much time and effort you have to put into it to be as good as you two! It was very enjoyable and a really good workout! Thank you guys so much for opening up your culture to me, it was a wonderful experience!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cherag and Anurag! I did not participate in the actual dancing but it was extremely fun to watch! Also, watching the videos that Mr. McCarthy was amazing. The music is so fun to listen to because the beat never gets dull or boring. Also the dancers move so effortlessly, even though watching Cherag and Anurag teach us took a lot more effort that usual! One other aspect of Bhangra dancing that I thoroughly enjoyed was the traditional clothing. The colors were so bright and vibrant and went right along with the dancer's joyful movements. ReplyDeleteThank you Cherag and Anurag! As others noted one of the best ways to become closer with another culture is to participate in an activity that is culturally significant. While attempting to try a few steps, the intricacies of Bhangra dancing became apparent. It was also fun to try something new and have the chance to see Bhangra being performed as well.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved watching the cultural dances in our school's talent show, and learning Bhangra in class made me respect this form of art so much more! Although Cherag and Anurag make the dancing look effortless, it is much harder than I had thought. I really loved learning the steps that they taught us. It is clear that Cherag and Anurag love Bhangra dancing, and their enthusiasm for this activity was contagious. I thought it was a great enrichment activity, and I would love to do something like this again! Thanks so much Cherag and Anurag! It was a great class!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cherag and Anurag! After watching the Bhangra in all the school talent shows, I was very excited to try to learn it myself. It was a lot more difficult than Cherag and Anurag made it look. I really enjoyed learning about and being immersed in this different culture in this way. It was a lot of fun and I would love to do something like this again!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cherag and Anurag. I had a really fun time dancing even thought I suck at it. One oof the best ways to experence another cluture is dancing. This acitivty lived up to the name of the class and as Erin said it brough fun and enthusiasm to the class
ReplyDeleteThe opportunity to learn Bhangra moves during class was a welcome change of pace from our regular routine. The moves, as many have said before, were much more challenging than they appeared, but went very well with the up-tempo music. Thanks Cherag and Anurag for introducing us to this new style of dance and sharing some of your Indian culture with us. Can't wait for the talent show!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun class that didn't really teach me the dance because obviously it's impossible to learn it in 50 minutes but at least I understood how difficult it is.
ReplyDeleteIt was a little disappointing to see how easy it was for Cherag and Anurag to dance Bhangra and how I couldn't even do the most simple moves.
Anyway it was a fun day different from the others!.
